Birthday invitation wording: 15 ready-to-use lines for adults

Most birthday invitations fail in one small way: they never say what kind of evening it is, so people guess and stay home. The lines below are sorted by tone, from relaxed drinks to milestone dinners and surprises, so you can pick one that fits your guests. Change the date, place and name, then put the rest in your own voice.

What to put on a adult birthday invitation

  • The date, start time and the time it ends, so guests know whether to bring a babysitter
  • The venue name and address, with a map link people can tap from their phone
  • One line that says what the party is: a milestone, a themed night, or just a Friday
  • A dress note if it matters, such as a decade theme or smart casual
  • Whether plus-ones and children are welcome
  • An RSVP deadline set a week before you need final numbers
  • Any running order, like a toast at 8 or cake at 9, so late arrivals are not confused

The page has an RSVP form: guests say yes or no, how many are coming, and anything you ask (allergies, email, phone). You get an email for each reply and a guest list with a CSV export.

When to send it

  1. 6 to 4 weeks before: Send the invitation so guests can plan travel, childcare and time off
  2. 2 weeks before: Check the guest list and message anyone who has not replied
  3. 1 week before: Download the guest list CSV and send final numbers to the venue or caterer
  4. Day of: Edit the page in chat if the start time or place has changed

Questions

Can I send the birthday invitation wording to a group chat?
You can share the single page link in a group chat. Guests open it without an account, and each reply comes to your email, so the group does not need to be in a thread to answer.
How do I keep a surprise party invitation away from the birthday person?
Send the link only to guests directly and leave out any group that includes the birthday person. Each RSVP still arrives to you by email, so you can see who is coming without anyone else seeing the list.
Can I change the wording after I have sent the invitation?
Yes. You can edit the page by hand or ask for changes in the chat, such as a new start time or a different line. Guests who open the link after the change see the updated version.
Does the invitation take payment for drinks or tickets?
No. The invitation collects yes or no answers, the number of guests, a note and up to six extra questions. It does not take payment, sell tickets or assign seats.
Can I see totals for my guest list?
Yes. The host page shows a guest list with totals for yes, no and not yet replied, and you can download everything as a CSV to share with a venue or caterer.
