Turn a PDF or Word file into slides

Attach a report, paper or notes and get a deck that follows the document's own sections.

Presentations2 min read

A report is not a presentation. Pasting its text onto slides gives you walls of words. A better deck follows the document's sections and gives each one a short title and a few bullets. The chat does that first pass for you.

Steps

  1. Create a free account and open the chat from your dashboard.
  2. Attach the file with the paperclip (Attach a file or document). You can also type @ and pick a file from your Files library.
  3. Press the suggestion Make a presentation, or write your own request.

If the document is a scan or a photo, WordGPT reads it with OCR first. Text-based PDFs and Word files are read directly.

Say what you want

The suggestion works, but a few words make the deck much better:

Make a presentation of 8 slides for the board from the attached report. Focus on the results and the risks. Skip the appendix.

Useful details: how many slides, who the audience is, which parts to leave out, and whether you want a web version.

There is also the suggestion HTML presentation, which asks for a web deck you can share by link.

After the first draft

A card shows "Presentation · N slides". Press Edit as slides to open the editor and change text, pictures and layout. Press PowerPoint to download a .pptx file. More on this in Present it: PowerPoint, PDF and web slides.

Check it

  • Is anything on a slide that is not in the document? Remove it.
  • Did an important table or figure get lost? Ask: "add a slide with the sales table from page 4".
  • Are numbers copied correctly? Check each one against the source.

Tips

  • Very long documents work better in parts: "slides for chapters 1 to 3 only".
  • A document with clear headings gives a better structure.
  • Keep the original open next to the deck while you review.

To see how it works before you sign up, try the free PDF to PowerPoint converter. It shows the slides for a PDF you drop in, and exporting needs an account.

Next: Summarize a PDF or long document.
