Summarize a PDF or long document

You do not always need to read all forty pages. Sometimes you need to know what it says, what matters and where to look.

Summarize in the chat

1. Create a free account, then open the chat from your dashboard.
2. Attach the PDF or Word file with the paperclip (Attach a file or document). You can also type @ to choose a file you have already uploaded.
3. Press the suggestion Summarize. It asks for "the key points in a short list".

Scanned documents and photos are read with OCR first, so they work too.

Ask for what you need

A general summary is a start. A summary for a purpose is more useful:

• "Summarize this contract in five bullets. List the dates and the amounts I must pay."
• "What are the three main findings of this paper, and how big was the study?"
• "Summarize for someone who has two minutes: one paragraph."

Then keep asking: "What does section 4 say about termination?" The chat answers from the document you attached.

Compare or combine

If you attach several files, the other suggestions help: Compare the files shows what is the same and what differs, and Combine into one merges them into one clear document.

What to watch for

• A summary leaves things out. Read the original for anything that has legal, medical or financial consequences.
• Check numbers and names against the source.
• Very long files may be handled in parts. If something seems missing, ask about that section directly.

Keep or share the result
