Turn a PDF into flashcards you can study from
Paste a PDF's text or drop the file to get a preview of question-and-answer flashcards, one fact per card, taken from your document. Free account for the full deck.
This preview shows the first 200 words and does not keep your file.
Need a different result? Turn anything into anything: drop any file, pick what you want out of it.Try it →Writing flashcards by hand from a PDF takes longer than the reading itself, and copied PDF text often breaks lines mid-sentence, so cards come out garbled. This page reads your document and writes 10 cards in the preview, each holding one fact from the text. Names, figures and dates stay exactly as written, in the order they appear.
What you get
One fact per card
Each card asks about a single name, figure, date or step, so you test one thing at a time instead of a paragraph.
Keeps the document's wording
Names, numbers and dates are copied as written, and the cards follow the order of the sections in your PDF.
Works on text and scans
Text PDFs are read directly. A scanned PDF is only a picture of the text, so it needs a free account, which adds OCR.
How it works
- Step 1
Drop a PDF of up to 5 pages (2 MB) or paste the text from it into the box.
- Step 2
Read the 10 preview cards, each a line of Q: and a line of A:, and check them against the page they came from.
- Step 3
Create a free account to get the full deck, an export for Anki and similar apps, longer files, photos of notes and a quiz from the same material.
Who uses it
Students preparing for an exam
Turn a course reading or past lecture handout into cards for dates, definitions and figures before a test.
Teachers building review material
Make a first set of recall questions from a worksheet or textbook extract, then edit the cards before handing them out.
Trainees learning procedures
Pull the key figures and steps from a training manual into cards you can review between shifts.
Questions
How many flashcards do I get, and from how much of the PDF?
The preview writes 10 cards from the first part of the document, which it reads up to 5 pages or about 6,000 characters. A free account builds a full deck from the whole file.
Can it make cards from a scanned PDF?
Only with a free account. A scan is a picture of the text, so the text has to be recognised first (OCR). The preview cannot read scanned pages directly.
What happens to my PDF after the cards are made?
The preview does not keep the file. Accounts handle whole documents, so check your account settings for how long files are stored.
Are the cards always correct?
Cards can contain mistakes, especially where the PDF's tables, images or broken line breaks confuse the text. Check each card against the original when the figure or date matters.
What language are the cards in?
The cards use the same language as your PDF. A German handout gives German questions and answers.
