Software engineer resume example

Engineering managers skim for stack, scope and measurable impact. This example opens with the stack in the headline, then gives each bullet one action and one number, such as latency, abandonment or release frequency, instead of a list of technologies.

What makes this software engineer resume work

Put the stack where it is found

Applicant systems and recruiters search for technologies. Name the main ones in the headline and in a skills line; do not bury them in paragraphs.

One action, one result

'Cut p95 latency from 820 ms to 240 ms by adding indexes and a cache' is a complete bullet. 'Worked on backend performance' is not.

Show scope and ownership

Say how many users, services or teammates your work touched, and what you led or owned rather than only contributed to.

Link to real work

A GitHub profile with recent, readable code or a project that runs is worth more than a long list of skills.

Bullet patterns to adapt

Replace the brackets with your real numbers and details.

  • Reduced [metric] from [before] to [after] by [change]
  • Led [project] used by [number] users, covering [scope]
  • Introduced [practice or tool], which [effect on speed, quality or cost]
  • Mentor [number] engineers through [how]

Skills to consider

  • TypeScript
  • JavaScript
  • React
  • Node.js
  • SQL
  • REST and GraphQL APIs
  • Testing
  • CI/CD
  • Cloud (AWS, GCP)
  • System design
  • Code review

List only the skills you have, ordered by how much the job asks for them.

Questions

Should I list every technology I have touched?

No. List the ones you would be comfortable being interviewed on, ordered by how relevant they are to the job.

How do I write a resume with no professional experience?

Lead with projects: what you built, the stack, the number of users or the problem it solved, with a link. Add education and open-source contributions.

One page or two?

One page up to about five years, two for more. Cut older, unrelated roles first.

Do I need a summary?

A short one helps: years of experience, main stack, and the kind of work you do. Skip adjectives.
