Edit your website by hand or with the assistant

The page editor works like a design tool, with an assistant in a column next to it. Use whichever is faster for each change. Open any of your pages from Pages.

With the assistant

Type a request in plain words:

• "Make the about section shorter and friendlier."
• "Change the colours to dark blue and white."
• "Add a button that links to my portfolio."
• "Rebuild the page from my latest resume."

The assistant makes the change and the page updates right away. If you do not like the result, undo it with Ctrl+Z: everything it does can be undone, including a full rebuild from the resume.

By hand

Click an element on the page to select it, then:

• Move and resize it by dragging; elements snap into line with their neighbours.
• Draw a box around several elements to move them together.
• Double-click text to type in it.
• Use the inspector to change its properties, and to upload or choose a picture.
• Use the arrow keys to nudge, Delete to remove, and Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z to undo and redo.

Use the Add panel to put in headings, text, pictures, buttons and shapes, or a ready-made section.

Sections that follow your resume

Some sections (experience, education, skills and similar) are fed by your resume, so they stay correct when the resume changes. If you edit one by hand, it becomes ordinary text and no longer follows the resume. The editor tells you when that happens, and Ctrl+Z undoes it.

Check it on a phone

Most visitors will open your page on a phone. Switch between the desktop preview and the phone preview and look at every section. The page reflows into a single column on narrow screens, so check that nothing looks cramped.

A short checklist

1. The first screen says who you are and what you do.
2. Contact details are correct, and only the ones you want public.
3. Pictures are sharp and you have the right to use them.
4. The phone view reads well.
