Long articles, essays and email threads often arrive as one unbroken block, and their structure is hard to see until you reread them. This tool reads the text you paste and lays it out as a numbered outline: main sections first, then short lettered points in the order they appear in the original. Names, figures and quotes are kept exactly as written.

What you get

Original order kept

Sections follow the sequence of the source text, so the outline matches the way the material is written.

One line per point

Each lettered sub-point is a single short line, so the outline can be scanned in seconds.

Exact wording

Names, figures and quotes are copied as written and are not paraphrased or rounded.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Paste your text into the box, or type it in directly.

  2. Step 2

Read the outline preview, which covers the first part of longer texts.

  3. Step 3

Create a free account to get the full outline for longer texts, a deeper outline, and the outline as an editable document or a draft built from it.

Who uses it

  • Students

Turn a long reading or lecture transcript into a skeleton to revise from, or to plan the structure of an essay.

  • Writers and editors

Check whether the sections of a draft article follow a clear order before you start editing the prose.

  • Anyone with a long email or report

Pull the main sections out of a long message or report before replying to it or passing it on.

Questions

Does the outline keep the original wording?

Yes. Names, figures and quotes are copied exactly as they appear in your text. Section titles and sub-points are short lines taken from the text, not rewritten in new words.

How much text can I paste?

The preview reads about 6,000 characters of pasted text. A free account gives the full outline for longer texts.

Can I drop a file instead of pasting text?

Yes. A PDF, Word or plain text file can be dropped in. The preview reads up to five pages of a PDF (2 MB) and does not keep the file. Scanned pages need a free account for OCR.

Is the outline always accurate?

It follows the text closely, but results can contain mistakes. Check the outline against the original whenever the structure or exact wording matters.

What does a free account add?

Longer texts and files, a deeper outline, and the outline as an editable document or a draft built from it.
