What makes this teacher resume work

State subject, level and class size

Hiring panels sort by them. 'Five classes, about 130 students, Years 7 to 13' is more useful than 'experienced teacher'.

Show student progress, not only activity

GCSE and A level results, growth between tests, participation in contests and clubs show effect. Compare with a baseline when you can.

Mention the tools you use

Learning platforms, assessment methods and subject software matter, but list them in a skills line, not in every bullet.

Put your qualified teacher status and qualifications near the top

Qualified teacher status, subject qualification and safeguarding checks are often a requirement and should be easy to find.

Bullet patterns to adapt

Replace the brackets with your real numbers and details.

  • Teach [number] classes ([number] students) in [subjects] from [year group] to [year group]
  • Raised [measure] from [before] to [after] over [period] by [method]
  • Started [club or programme] with [number] members; [result]
  • Designed [intervention] for students who were behind, and [what happened]

Skills to consider

  • Lesson planning
  • Curriculum design
  • Differentiated instruction
  • Formative assessment
  • Classroom management
  • Exam preparation
  • Parent communication
  • Google Classroom
  • Special educational needs support

List only the skills you have, ordered by how much the job asks for them.

Questions

Should I include my teaching philosophy?

Keep it for the cover letter or interview, in two sentences at most. On the resume, evidence beats statements.

How do I show results if I do not teach exam classes?

Use participation, progress between assessments, projects, competitions or feedback from students and parents.

What if I am changing from another career into teaching?

Lead with your teaching qualification, then show teaching experience (tutoring, training, mentoring) and the subject knowledge from your previous field.

How long should it be?

One to two pages. Two is normal for more than five years of experience.
